Description
RN - Labor & Delivery (Nights) – Wenatchee, WA
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks (Typically)
Shift: Nights (19:00 – 07:00) | 3x12-Hour Shifts (36 Hours Weekly)
Job Summary
Looking for a dedicated Labor & Delivery (L&D) RN to join their night-shift team at the Central Campus. This role requires a high level of clinical expertise in maternal-fetal nursing, ranging from triage and active labor management to circulating for Cesarean sections and providing immediate recovery care. As a night-shift clinician, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment for expectant mothers and their newborns during high-stakes hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Maternal-Fetal Surveillance: Perform continuous and intermittent Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM); interpret tracings and intervene appropriately based on fetal heart rate patterns.
- Labor Management: Utilize the nursing process to develop and adjust individualized plans of care for patients in all stages of labor, including the administration of high-alert medications like Pitocin.
- Surgical Support: Assist and circulate for both elective and emergent Cesarean sections; manage recovery in the PACU phase for obstetric patients.
- Neonatal Care: Provide immediate stabilization and care for the newborn; maintain active NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) readiness for every delivery.
- Patient Education: Teach mothers and families about the labor process, pain management options, and postpartum expectations.
- Documentation & Safety: Accurately document assessments and interventions in the EMR; delegate tasks to assistive personnel while maintaining oversight of patient safety.
- Flexibility: Must be willing to float as a patient sitter or participate in unit-specific float rotations as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Licensure: Active Washington (WA) State or Compact RN License (Required at submission).
- Certifications: Must hold active AHA BLS, NRP, and Fetal Heart Monitoring (EFM) certifications.
- Experience: While not explicitly listed, 2–3 years of acute L&D experience is the standard for travel contracts at this facility.
- Legal Compliance: Must function within the Washington Nurse Practice Act and stay current on legal aspects of obstetric nursing.
Unit & Facility Details
- Location: Wenatchee, WA 98801.
- Shift Details: 19:00 – 07:00 (Evenings/Nights).
- Floating: Mandatory sitter floating and potential rotation to other maternal-child units (Postpartum/NICU) if cross-trained.
Clinical Spotlight: The Night Shift Sentinel
In the L&D unit, the 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM window is often when the "labor board" becomes the most dynamic. Without the full daytime administrative and surgical staff, your ability to interpret subtle changes in a fetal heart rate strip or identify the early signs of preeclampsia is crucial. You are the sentinel for two patients at once, ensuring that the transition from a quiet night to an emergent delivery is managed with precision and calm.
Wenatchee is a fantastic hub for night-shift workers who love the outdoors; you can hit the trails or the river on your "Friday" morning before the weekend crowds arrive.
