Description

RN - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Wenatchee, WA

Contract Duration: 13 Weeks (04/27/2026 – 07/27/2026)

Shift: Days/Evenings (07:00 – 19:30) | 3x12-Hour Shifts (36 Hours Weekly)

Job Summary

Looking for a high-caliber Progressive Care RN to join their Central Campus team. This unit bridges the gap between the Intensive Care Unit and General Med-Surg, requiring nurses who are experts in hemodynamic monitoring and rapid clinical intervention. You will manage patients with complex needs, including those recovering from strokes, cardiac events, or post-surgical complications. The role demands a proactive clinician who can balance high-acuity tasks with compassionate, family-centered education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advanced Assessment: Perform frequent, detailed assessments of neurologically and hemodynamically unstable patients; utilize the NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) for continuous monitoring of neuro patients.
  • Cardiac & Hemodynamic Management: Interpret telemetry rhythms and manage patients requiring non-titratable cardiac drips or significant respiratory support (CPAP/BiPAP).
  • Care Planning: Utilize the nursing process to develop and continually reassess individualized plans of care, adjusting for the physical, social, and rehabilitative needs of the patient.
  • Patient & Family Education: Translate complex medical information into actionable health education for families, ensuring a smooth transition during the discharge process.
  • Support & Safety: Function as a core member of the healthcare team; required to float as a sitter or rotate to other units as census dictates.
  • Documentation: Accurately record all assessments, interventions, and patient responses in a timely manner (Facility typically uses Epic).

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Licensure: Active Washington (WA) State or Compact RN License (Required at submission).
  • Certifications: Must maintain active AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.
  • Experience: While not specified, 2+ years of PCU or Stepdown experience is standard for this facility’s travel contracts.
  • Legal Compliance: Consistently functions within the Washington Nurse Practice Act and legal aspects of nursing.

Unit & Facility Details.

  • Shift Details: 07:00 – 19:30 (12.5-hour shift includes a 30-minute meal break).
  • On-Call: No regular on-call requirement listed for this contract.

Clinical Spotlight: The PCU Transition Expert

In a Progressive Care setting, you are often the first line of defense against clinical "crashing." Because your patients are often one step away from the ICU, your ability to identify early signs of sepsis or cardiac distress is vital. Your NIHSS certification is particularly critical here; in a stroke-ready facility, your hourly neuro checks are the primary tool used to determine if a patient needs to return to interventional radiology or the OR.

Wenatchee is a outdoor enthusiast's paradise, especially in the late spring and early summer.
