Guaranteed Hours

36/48 hours rotating per two weeks 

Fingerprint Requirement

• In-person process:
  Available in Jackson or Grenada, MS
  Must be completed the week prior to start
  Turnaround time: ~48 hours
• Remote process:
  Requires 10–14 days for processing

Unit Overview

• Unit Name: Med Surg 3 North (Trauma Unit / Post-Surgical / Med-Surg Overflow)
• Beds: 32

Staffing & Ratios

• Typical Ratio: 1:5 (can go up to 1:6)
• Adjusted lower for higher-acuity patients

Certifications Required

• BLS: Required for all RNs
• ACLS: Required for Charge RNs only

Patient Population

• Trauma cases:
  • Gunshot wounds (GSW)
  • Motor vehicle accidents (MVA)
  • Falls
• Post-surgical patients
• General med-surg
• Burn overflow

Required Skills / Experience

• Experience with high-acuity and post-surgical patients
• Must be comfortable with:
  • Lines
  • Chest tubes

Drips & Medications

• RN titration required for:
  • Heparin
• May initiate:
  • Amiodarone (patient then transferred to cardiac unit)
• Cardiac drips: Managed on 3 South only

Telemetry

• Telemetry available on all units
• Central monitoring station communicates with RN
• 3 South has:
  • Central monitors at nurses’ station
  • All patients on telemetry

Leadership Structure

• Charge Nurse:
  • Takes light assignment (can take full load if needed)
• House Supervisor:
  • In-house after 3 PM weekdays + all weekends
• Management:
  • Nurse managers & educators available weekdays
  • Smaller units may share leadership

Support Staff

• Nurse aides available on all units

Respiratory Equipment

• CPAP / BiPAP (primarily at night, RT assists)
• High-flow oxygen available (noted on 2 North)

Scheduling

• Shifts: 12-hour
  • 7 AM – 7 PM
  • 7 PM – 7 AM
• Common schedule: 7 on / 7 off
• Self/block scheduling not specified

Weekend Requirement

• Every other weekend or
• ~2 weekends/month (may increase based on need)

Holiday Requirement

• Rotated with permanent staff

Call / Standby

• None required

Floating

• Required within skillset
• Float across all med-surg units
• Higher-acuity patients assigned to core staff

Dress Code

• Any solid color scrubs
• Must be professional

Orientation

• Day 1:
  • Paperwork & attestations
  • System access (Omnicell, Epic)
  • Unit tour & scheduling discussion
• Training:
  • 2 additional shifts with a preceptor
