Description

Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – Odessa, TX

Contract Duration: 13 Weeks (Starts 05/05/2026)

Shift: Night 3x12-Hour (18:45 – 07:15)

Job Summary

Seeking two highly skilled Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT) for a versatile night-shift role. This position is unique as it covers the full life cycle of patient care—from Level III NICU neonates to geriatric critical care. As a Level III Trauma facility (functioning as Level II), you will be a core member of the Rapid Response and Trauma teams, managing advanced ventilation and nitric oxide delivery across all populations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advanced Ventilator Management: Operate and troubleshoot PB 980 ventilators for adults/pediatrics and specialized High-Frequency Jet and Oscillatory ventilation for the NICU.
  • NICU & Pediatrics: Assist in high-risk deliveries; manage Bubble CPAP, perform direct neonatal intubation, and collect umbilical/capillary blood gases.
  • Critical Care & Trauma: Provide respiratory support for ARDS, multi-trauma, and COVID patients; perform arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis via Istat POC.
  • Medication Administration: Deliver a wide array of pulmonary medications including Albuterol, Xopenex, Inhaled Flolan, and Nitric Oxide (iNo).
  • Non-Invasive Support: Manage V-60 for NIV (Non-Invasive Ventilation) and High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) therapy.
  • Diagnostics: Perform bedside spirometry and assist with bronchoscopies as needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Credential: Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). CRTs will not be accepted.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of RRT experience. Trauma Level II experience is required. Previous Charge experience is preferred.
  • Licensure: Active Texas (TX) Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
  • Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, and PALS (All required).
  • Technical Skills: Cerner EMR experience is preferred.
  • Local Rule: Candidates living within 50 miles are not accepted for this contract.

Unit & Facility Details

  • Facility: Medical Center Hospital (402 Beds).
  • Trauma Level: Level III (Functions as Level II).
  • NICU Level: Level III.
  • Daily Census: 270.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (9 shifts per contract).
  • Floating: Required to float across Adult Med/Surg, Critical Care, ED, and Peds/NICU.

Financial & Logistics Notes

  • Orientation: 24 hours total; 16 hours are non-billable.
  • RTO: Required at the time of submission (1 request maximum).

Clinical Spotlight: The Full-Spectrum Therapist

In a facility that functions as a Level II Trauma center with a Level III NICU, your clinical scope is exceptionally broad. On a single shift, you may transition from managing a premature infant on an Oscillating Ventilator to managing an adult trauma patient with ARDS on a PB 980. Your expertise in interpretation of Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs) and airway management is the linchpin for both the neonatal and adult critical care teams.
