Location: Macon, GA 31210

Beds: 25
Census? 20-25
 

Minimum Years of Experience required? 2 years of Inpatient Rehab or MedSurg experience; need to at least have knowledge of inpatient rehab. Will accept RN or LPN for RN posting


Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes
 

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
Neuro, Traumatic Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury, CVA, Aneurysm – referral of acute patients mostly from hospitals. Most nurses who will adapt to Unit 2 are nurses who have worked on MedSurg/Neuro units or other rehab facilities.
Post-craniotomies, CVAs, brain bleeds, patients with PEG tubes and trachs (trachs mostly capped, seldomly trach collar to O2 managed by RT), braces, splints, mobility deficits.


Patient Ratios:
RN/LPN: 1:5-7
CNA: 1-3 CNAs per shift
 

Required License, National Certification, Certs:
Active RN License (GA)
BLS, NIHSS
 

Skills required:
Experience with above patient types, wound care, dressing changes, wound vacs, drains, peripheral IV starts/maintenance, ostomy care, IV antibiotics, PEG tube maintenance, tube feeds, established trach care/maintenance (RT here 24/7 if needed), handling braces/splints, familiar with bowel/bladder programs
No drips
 

Support Available:
CNA – can assist with VS, Glucose Checks, baths, feeding, ambulating patients, assisting turning patients, hourly rounding, transporting patients as needed (Hospital has designated Transport Team)
Receptionist/HUC? Unit secretary on unit
Charge RN
Phlebotomy and Nurse draw
RT 24/7
Hospitalist during the day, on call at night
 

Technology/Equipment:
EMR: EPIC
IV Pump: Alaris
Med dispensing: Pyxis
Monitors: Phillips
Unit specific equipment:
VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips
Portable vital signs monitors (Dynamapp)
Bladder scanners, IV pump, portable oxygen system
Suction machine
 

Floating: If yes, where?
Between Unit 1 and Unit 2
 

Orientation (facility and unit):
1 day orientation with work on educational modules
2 days departmental
Weekend rotation: 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 (on a 6-week schedule)
On call? No
Holiday Expectations: work one shift of each major holiday (Thanksgiving Day or day after + 12/24 or 12/25 + 12/31 or 1/1)
Approval of RTO: to go through manager
Shift times: 0700-1900, 1900-0700
Schedule cycle: 6-week schedule
