Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – PCU Nights
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work primarily night shifts (3x12-hour shifts) on weekdays and some weekends.
- Provide nursing care in Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
- Start and manage IVs.
- Administer medications safely.
- Monitor vital signs and patient responses.
- Educate patients on treatments and self-care.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team on patient care plans.
- Use EPIC EMR for documentation.
- May float to lower acuity units as needed.
- Follow hospital policies and maintain patient safety.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA provider or instructor accepted.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – May be required depending on unit.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – Required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with some unit exceptions).
- Unit-specific competency exams may be required.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start.
- Other certifications (e.g., PALS, NRP, NIH Stroke Certification) may be required depending on unit assignment.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting.
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and freedom from contagious disease.
- Immunizations and health requirements including:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12).
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable).
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (mask required if declining).
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies.
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.
Additional Information
- Parking permits available for purchase (details not included here).
- Fingerprinting must be completed using specific state codes and within 1 year of start.
- Candidates with a break in service of 90+ days may require new fingerprinting.
- Background check and fingerprinting results with hits require additional documentation and adjudication.
- Candidates must complete all required documentation and certifications prior to or shortly after start.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs seeking a travel contract in a progressive care setting with night shifts and opportunities to float to other units. Strong clinical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment are essential.
