Description
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) with strong Oncology and Stepdown (PCU) experience to join a General Medical Unit (GMU) caring for oncology and stepdown patients. The ideal candidate will be skilled in chemotherapy administration and capable of managing complex patient care in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer chemotherapy via IV and monitor patient response
- Perform IV therapy including starting and maintaining IV lines
- Provide care for oncology and general medical stepdown patients
- Monitor patient conditions and respond to changes appropriately
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams
- Document patient care accurately using EPIC EMR
- Float to other med-surg areas, including AU and ER, as needed
Requirements:
- Active Michigan RN License – Required
- AHA BLS Certification – Required
- NIH Stroke Certification – Required
- ONCC or ONS Certification – Required (ONS pending accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of PCU/Stepdown experience – Required
- Experience in chemotherapy administration – Highly Preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
- Oncology Certified Nurse (ONC) – Preferred
- Experience monitoring chemotherapy patients
- Strong oncology/chemo background
Unit Details:
- General Medical Unit (GMU) – Stepdown level care
- Patient population: General medicine and oncology stepdown patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4–6
- Support staff available when ratios increase
- Charge RN typically not in patient assignment
- Lower ratios for chemo patients
Equipment & Systems:
- Welch Allyn vital sign monitors
- Sigma IV pumps
- EPIC EMR for documentation
