Job Title: Registered Nurse - Med Surg/Oncology
Location: Augusta, GA
Job Type: Contract
Contract Duration: 14 weeks (Possible Extension)
Shift: 12 hours a day, 3 shifts a week.
Shift Type: Days 7:00 AM-7:00 PM and Nights 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM
Weekly Hours: 36 hours weekly
Note:- An Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification is required.
Job Overview:
A Registered Nurse (RN) – Med-Surg Oncology provides specialized nursing care to patients diagnosed with cancer and other complex medical conditions in an acute care setting. The role involves delivering comprehensive patient care, including administering chemotherapy, managing symptoms, and supporting patients through various stages of treatment while ensuring safety and comfort.
Med-Surg Oncology RNs work in a fast-paced environment, requiring strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and compassionate care. Responsibilities include monitoring patients before, during, and after treatments, administering medications, managing side effects, and maintaining accurate documentation. They collaborate closely with oncologists and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care and improve patient outcomes. The role emphasizes patient-centered care, safety, and adherence to oncology-specific protocols and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to oncology patients with acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other oncology treatments as per physician orders and established protocols.
- Monitor patients for treatment side effects and adverse reactions, and respond promptly to any complications.
- Assess patient conditions, including pain management, vital signs, and overall health status.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with oncologists and the healthcare team.
- Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment plans, medication management, and post-discharge care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in EMR/EHR systems.
- Ensure adherence to infection control practices and oncology safety standards (including handling of hazardous drugs).
- Provide emotional support and compassionate care to patients and their families.
- Coordinate discharge planning and follow-up care to ensure continuity of treatment.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes.
- Respond effectively to emergencies and changes in patient condition.
Required Qualifications:
- GA or compact State active RN License
- Active BLS AHA
- OCN (required)
- 2 years of RN - Med surg/Oncology experience
