🧠 Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join a Geriatric Psychiatric Unit within a 78-bed general hospital. This unit specializes in treating older adults with complex psychiatric conditions and multiple medical comorbidities.

Patients may require total care, making this role ideal for candidates with a combined Med-Surg and Psychiatric background.

🩺 Patient Population

• Geriatric patients with:
  • Depression
  • Suicidal Ideation (SI)
  • Schizophrenia
  • Bipolar Disorder
• Patients with co-existing medical conditions
• Dementia and cognitive decline cases

🔑 Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for medical-psych geriatric patients
• Facilitate and lead therapeutic group sessions
• Manage patients under:
  • Voluntary and involuntary status
  • Seclusion and restraints (as required)
• Monitor and manage high-risk behaviors
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for holistic patient care
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and hospital policies

✅ Required Qualifications

• Active Connecticut RN License (CT-RN)
• BLS Certification
• Crisis Management Training (CMT)
  • CPI / Northwell preferred
  • Minimum 6-hour in-person training accepted (certificate required)
• Minimum 2 years of Psychiatric Nursing experience

⭐ Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience
• Experience in Geriatric Psychiatry / Dementia Care
• Background in Medical-Surgical Nursing
