Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job in North Carolina

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 3x12 hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Rotation: Every other week (EOW), holidays as needed
• Float: Required to float between multiple facilities within the system

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
• First-time travelers are accepted (prior travel experience NOT required)

Patient Population & Conditions

• Acutely ill medical-surgical and orthopedic patients
• Patient diagnoses include:

  • Acute/chronic respiratory illness
  • Post-op general surgery and gynecological surgery
  • Post-op total knee and hip replacements
  • Orthopedics
  • Acute and chronic pain
  • Active GI bleeding
  • Congestive heart failure (CHF)/pulmonary edema
  • Diabetes (hyper- and hypoglycemic conditions)
  • Renal failure
  • Drug overdose
• Patients with Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment (CIWA) score below 7
• Stable COVID patients
• Exclusions: Suicidal, arrhythmia, radioactive therapy, uncontrolled or new onset seizures

Required Skills and Experience

• Medical-Surgical Telemetry and Telemetry experience required
• Ability to administer IV medication drips including Heparin and TNA

Required Certifications and Licenses

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in North Carolina
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or ARC)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• NIH Stroke Certification preferred
• Pass/Fail EKG (Dysrhythmia) exam required for all RNs (except Behavioral Health or Case Managers)
• Other certifications may be preferred depending on unit (e.g., TNCC, CPI)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• Social Security Card
• Background check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• Education verification (Associate’s degree in nursing or higher required)
• Transcript/Diploma as proof of highest education
• Employment application/resume with 7-year work history
• Work history verification for last 5 years
• Two supervisory references required (one within 12 months, one within 24 months)
• Annual skills checklist with a one-week grace period for renewal
• Physical exam (if applicable)
• Immunizations and health documents including:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (Qgold/TSPOT within 6 months)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B titer or declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start
• Fit mask test completed within current calendar year (N95 respirators approved)
• Fingerprinting and background checks as required by North Carolina regulations

Scheduling and Work Expectations

• Strict zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences
• Flexibility with scheduling required
• Compliance deadlines must be met prior to start date
• Floating between facilities is mandatory for all travelers

Additional Notes

• Candidates must complete a Pass/Fail EKG exam prior to or upon hire
• Candidates must submit a professional badge photo meeting strict guidelines (no selfies, hats, masks, or filters; solid color background; business casual or uniform attire)
• Orientation and onboarding tasks must be completed before arrival
• Candidates will receive Workday login credentials approximately two weeks before start date and must complete multi-factor authentication setup

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with telemetry experience who are flexible and able to work night shifts with a variety of acute medical-surgical and orthopedic patients. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Successful completion of Dysrhythmia/EKG exam
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
