Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)
Location: Cleveland VA Medical Center, 10701 East Blvd, Cleveland, OH 44106
Duration: Base Year + 1 Optional Year
Start: 6–8 Weeks (Credentialing Required)
Positions: 8 FTEs (Part of 45 Total RN Openings)
Work Setting: Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Unit / Rehabilitation
Job Summary
We are seeking compassionate and skilled Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Registered Nurses (RNs) to support the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center during the Federal Electronic Health Record (EHR) implementation. The SCI RN will provide specialized care to veterans with spinal cord injuries and neurological impairments, focusing on rehabilitation, long-term care, and improving quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialized nursing care to patients with spinal cord injuries and neurological conditions
- Assess, plan, and implement individualized care plans for SCI patients
- Manage complex care needs including mobility, bowel/bladder programs, skin integrity, and pain management
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
- Monitor and document patient progress in the EHR system
- Educate patients and families on long-term care, rehabilitation, and self-management
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and physicians
- Ensure compliance with VA policies, HIPAA, and clinical standards
- Support patient care continuity during EHR system transition
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program (ACEN or CCNE)
- Active RN license (Ohio or Compact State - NLC)
- Minimum 2+ years of recent direct patient care experience (within last 3 years)
- Current BLS certification (AHA required)
- Strong clinical, communication, and patient-care skills
- Ability to manage patients with complex and chronic conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), Rehabilitation, Neuro, or Long-Term Care settings
- Prior VA or federal healthcare experience
- Familiarity with EHR systems
- Specialty certifications in rehabilitation or neuroscience nursing (preferred)
