Job Summary
Seeking a skilled Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to support their surgical services department. Located near the Olympic National Forest and PNW beaches, this Level 3 Trauma facility requires a tech who is an expert in aseptic technique and surgical instrumentation. You will play a critical role in the "scrub" capacity, ensuring that the sterile field is maintained and that surgeons have the necessary tools to perform procedures efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Sterile Field Management: Prepare and maintain a sterile environment; handle instruments, supplies, and equipment according to AORN standards for asepsis.
- Surgical Scrub: Scrub-in for a variety of cases; anticipate the surgeon's needs and pass instruments swiftly and accurately.
- Room Preparation: Assist in the setup and breakdown of the OR suite, ensuring all equipment is clean, sanitary, and functional.
- Instrumentation Expert: Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of specialized surgical tools and diagnostic equipment used across various specialties.
- Support Duties: Assist the PACU and Day Surgery areas as needed; may include non-nursing administrative or clerical tasks to support department flow.
- Physical Demands: Must be able to lift/pull up to 50 lbs (stretcher to bed) and push a 50 lb stretcher for 300 feet.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Certification: Current certification by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) is required.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience is required (Hospital surgical background preferred).
- Licensure: Must hold a current, active Washington (WA) State Surgical Technologist License.
- Certifications: Current AHA BLS required.
- Skills: Expert knowledge of sterile techniques, accurate judgment under stress, and the ability to work with a diverse group of physicians.
Unit & Facility Details
- Location: Aberdeen, WA.
- Trauma Level: Level 3.
- Bed Size: 50–149 beds.
- EMR: Meditech.
- Environment: A community-focused hospital serving the rugged and beautiful coastal region of Washington.
Clinical Spotlight: The Guardian of the Sterile Field
As a CST in a Level 3 Trauma center, you are the final checkpoint for patient safety regarding surgical site infections. Your mastery of aseptic technique—knowing exactly what is "clean" versus "sterile"—is the foundation of every successful operation. In smaller community hospitals like Grays Harbor, your versatility across general surgery, ortho, and potentially OB/GYN cases makes you an indispensable member of the surgical team.
Aberdeen is known as the "Gateway to the Olympic Peninsula," offering some of the best hiking and coastal views in the country.
