RN - Ambulatory (Medical Specialties Clinic)

Location: Cambridge, MA

Contract Duration: 13 Weeks (05/05/2026 – 08/01/2026)

Shift: 8-Hour Days | Monday – Friday (09:00 – 17:30) Schedule Perk: No Weekends, No Call, No Block Scheduling

Job Summary

Looking for an experienced Ambulatory RN to join their Medical Specialties Clinic. This role is perfect for a nurse who enjoys the pace of outpatient care but wants the clinical depth of medical specialties. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to coordinate care, perform clinical assessments, and manage treatments for a diverse patient population. This  is a public health system, so a passion for community health and health equity is a significant plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Specialty Coordination: Support various medical specialties, assisting with patient intake, specialty-specific procedures, and care plan implementation.
  • Patient Triage: Perform in-person and telephonic triage; assess symptoms and facilitate appropriate levels of care or provider intervention.
  • Clinic Workflow: Manage the daily flow of the clinic, ensuring patients are seen efficiently and that all clinical documentation is captured in Epic.
  • Education & Advocacy: Provide specialized teaching to patients regarding chronic disease management, new medications, and follow-up care.
  • Leadership: Charge capability is highly preferred, as you may be asked to oversee clinical flow and support staff during peak hours.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 1–2+ years of RN experience specifically in an Ambulatory or Outpatient setting. Experience in medical specialties is required.
  • Licensure: Active Massachusetts (MA) RN License (NURSYS verification must be pulled within the last 7 days).
  • Certifications: Current AHA BLS (Required); AHA ACLS (Preferred).
  • Technical Skills: Epic EMR experience is highly preferred.
  • Compliance: Flu vaccine is required during the season.
  • Travelers: First-time travelers are welcome!

Unit & Facility Details

  • Address: Cambridge, MA 02139.
  • Orientation: Includes general Hospital Orientation followed by two precepted shifts on the unit.
  • Scrub Color: Any color (provide your own).

Financial & Submission Notes

  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week.
  • Local Rule: Locals within 50 miles are accepted, but the rate will be less than the posted travel rate.
  • Holiday Policy: Must work every other major holiday if the clinic is operational or as assigned.
  • RTO: Must be included at the time of submission; it is not guaranteed if requested later.
  • References: Requires 2 recent references from a Charge RN, Manager, or Supervisor (MS/Tele references are acceptable).

Clinical Spotlight: The Specialty Generalist

In an ambulatory specialties clinic, you are the clinical "hub." Unlike inpatient nursing where you focus on a few patients for 12 hours, you will interact with dozens of patients throughout the day, each with unique needs ranging from endocrinology and GI to pulmonology. Your ability to quickly assess a patient's status and communicate effectively with specialists makes you the backbone of the outpatient experience.

Cambridge is a world-class destination for food, history, and academia.
