Job Summary
Seeking a highly organized and clinically sound Registered Nurse for their Preventive Cardiology specialty clinic. Unlike a high-acuity hospital role, this position focuses on the administrative and educational side of chronic cardiac care. You will act as the clinical engine of the office, managing the "In-Basket," coordinating medication prior authorizations, and providing telephonic education to help patients manage hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and other cardiovascular risk factors.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical In-Basket Management: Manage provider messages, lab results, and patient inquiries within Epic to ensure timely care coordination.
- Medication Prior Authorizations: Navigate insurance requirements to secure approvals for specialized cardiac medications (e.g., PCSK9 inhibitors or advanced statin therapies).
- Tele-Nursing & Triage: Conduct phone assessments; provide guidance on medication side effects, lifestyle modifications, and titration protocols.
- Patient Education: Create and deliver education plans focused on cardiac health, focusing on secondary prevention and long-term risk reduction.
- Care Coordination: Review laboratory trends (lipids, renal function) and assist providers in optimizing the patient’s preventive regimen.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Local Requirement: Local candidates only. You must live within a 45-minute commute of Hartford, CT.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience.
- Clinical Skills: Office/Ambulatory experience is required. Cardiology experience is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Epic EMR experience is required.
- Licensure: Active Connecticut (CT) RN License.
- Certifications: AHA BLS required.
Unit & Facility Details
- Address: Hartford, CT 06106.
- Work Dynamic: Primarily non-patient facing. This is an office-based, administrative-clinical role requiring high proficiency in computer work and phone communication.
- Status: Not temp-to-hire.
Financial & Logistics Notes
- Hours: 40 hours guaranteed per week.
Clinical Spotlight: The Preventive Strategist
In Preventive Cardiology, your success is measured by the events that don't happen. By meticulously managing medication prior authorizations and providing clear patient education, you are the barrier between a patient and a future cardiac event. This role requires a nurse who enjoys the "puzzle" of insurance navigation and the satisfaction of ensuring a patient has the life-saving medications they need to stay out of the hospital.
The clinic is located in the heart of Hartford's medical district.
