Job Opportunity: Critical Care Float Registered Nurse

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with critical care float experience to work primarily in ICU with floating to Medical-Surgical (MS), MS Telemetry, Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Neuro ICU, and Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) units. Patient population ranges from adults to geriatrics.


Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in specialty
  • 1st time travelers accepted
  • Prior travel experience not explicitly required

Work Setting & Responsibilities

  • Floating primarily to ICU, but may float to MS, MS Tele, PCU, ICU units
  • Patient ratios:
    • ICU: 1:2-3
    • PCU: 1:4-5
    • MS/MS Tele: 1:5-6
  • Use of Epic electronic health record system required
  • Other systems: Pyxis, SBAR communication tool
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Weekend shifts: Every other weekend (approx. 6 weekends in a 13-week contract)
  • Call: None required
  • Holiday work: Expected to work major holidays if they fall during assignment (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day)
  • Return to Orientation (RTO): Maximum 7 days per contract, with blackout dates during Spring Break (April 4-12)

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (if required by unit)

Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for the state of Georgia

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

  • Full compliance with orientation and credentialing required to start on time; delays may result in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
  • Background check required within 30 days of start, including education verification and criminal history
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with additional requirements if history of positive TB)
  • Drug screening (10-panel) within 60 days of start
  • Annual NURSYS license verification
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or documentation of immunity:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer or signed declination)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap highly recommended)
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
  • Color blindness testing required
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for Telemetry and ICU units (3 attempts allowed)
  • Skills checklist updated within 12 months
  • Work history verification and 2 clinical references required

Additional Notes

  • Floating between multiple critical care and step-down units is mandatory
  • No call responsibilities
  • Locals accepted at the same rate
  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length
  • Candidate must review and sign facility-specific policies including Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience within the last year
  • Experience using Epic electronic health record system
