Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Facility: Presbyterian Hospital
Assignment Duration: 13 weeks, with potential for extension
Schedule: Days, 36 hours/week | 12-hour shifts | 3 days/week
Employment Type: Contract (Travel/Staffing)

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse (RN) to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced clinical environment. The ideal candidate will utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and documentation).
• Deliver safe, effective, and patient-centered care aligned with clinical standards and protocols.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring accurate documentation.
• Collaborate with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare team members to coordinate care.
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans, care needs, and discharge instructions.
• Supervise and guide LPNs and non-licensed assistive personnel.
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
• Float to other units or nearby facilities (within 20 miles) as required.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent experience in an 18+ bed telemetry or progressive care unit.
• At least one completed 13-week travel assignment.
• Strong adaptability to fast-paced clinical environments.
• Excellent teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.

Required Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN).

Certifications & Licensure

• Active State of New Mexico RN License or Compact State License.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
  (Certifications must be from American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Health & Safety.)

Mandatory Requirement

• Candidates must pass a Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia (BCA) test administered onsite before starting.
  • One retest allowed.
  • Failure on the second attempt will result in contract termination.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Epic EMR system.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
