Description

Job Summary:

The Quality Control Technician – Sterile Processing is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of instrument cleanliness, assembly accuracy, and sterilization quality. This role combines hands-on sterile processing duties with detailed inspection, documentation, and quality assurance to support patient safety and regulatory compliance.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Follow ANSI/AAMI standards, manufacturer IFUs, SOPs, and internal work instructions
  • Perform decontamination, cleaning, and reassembly of surgical instruments
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and defects prior to sterilization
  • Assemble and package instrument trays accurately per guidelines
  • Operate washers, disinfectors, and sterilization equipment
  • Maintain accurate documentation of sterilization cycles, tracking, and inventory
  • Identify and document damaged or missing instruments
  • Monitor and maintain supply and instrument inventory levels
  • Ensure compliance with infection control and quality standards
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of processing equipment
  • Maintain clean and organized workstations and decontamination areas
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and operations staff
  • Provide feedback to improve workflows and quality processes
  • Participate in training and continuous quality improvement initiatives

  • Fast-paced, controlled indoor environment
  • Exposure to biohazardous materials and strong odors
  • Moderate noise levels
  • Extended periods of standing
  • Required use of PPE at all times

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of sterile processing experience
  • Strong knowledge of decontamination, assembly, and sterilization processes
  • Familiarity with ANSI/AAMI standards and manufacturer IFUs
  • Experience operating autoclaves, washer disinfectors, and sterilization equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and quality assurance mindset
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and tracking systems
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior experience in Quality Control / Quality Assurance within sterile processing

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)

Certifications & Licensure:

  • Sterile Processing Certification (CRCST, CIS, or equivalent) – Required
