Postpartum RN Traveler – Boston, MA
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks (05/04/2026 – 08/02/2026)
Shift: 3x12-Hour Rotating Days/Nights
Schedule: Every Other Weekend (EOW) & Every Other Holiday
Job Summary:
A world-class academic medical center and a major teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, is seeking experienced Postpartum RNs. Working on the CWN 9 Postpartum unit, you will provide high-quality care to couplets in the immediate days following birth. As a "Baby-Friendly" designated facility, the focus is on family-centered care, breastfeeding support, and safe transition to home for both mother and newborn.
Key Responsibilities
- Couplet Care: Manage a typical assignment of 3–4 couplets (mother and baby), performing physical assessments, vitals, and surgical site checks for C-section recovery.
- Maternal Recovery: Monitor for postpartum complications, including hemorrhage, preeclampsia, and infection.
- Newborn Stabilization: Perform newborn assessments, including metabolic screenings, hearing tests, and monitoring for jaundice.
- Lactation Support: Assist with breastfeeding techniques, proper latch, and troubleshooting common early nursing challenges.
- Patient Education: Provide comprehensive discharge teaching regarding infant safety, umbilical cord care, and maternal "red flags."
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of Postpartum/Mother-Baby experience in an acute care hospital setting.
- Licensure: Active Massachusetts (MA) RN License.
- Certifications: Current AHA BLS and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) are required.
- Flexibility: Must be willing to rotate between day and night shifts (D/N Rotation).
- ASAP Start: This is a Critical Order with an immediate need; prompt submission is encouraged.
Unit & Facility Details
- Address: Boston, MA 02115.
- Department: CWN 9 Postpartum Staff (Center for Women and Newborns).
- On-Call: There is an on-call requirement for this position.
- Availability: 4 out of 5 open positions remaining.
Financial & Logistics Notes
- Shift Details: 36 hours per week (3x12).
- Location Perks: Located in the heart of the Longwood Medical Area, offering access to some of the best medical resources and public transit in Boston.
Clinical Spotlight: The Postpartum Sentinel
In a high-volume unit like BWH's CWN 9, your assessment skills are the first line of defense. Postpartum hemorrhage remains a leading cause of maternal morbidity; your ability to recognize the subtle early signs of hemodynamic instability—long before vitals crash—is critical. Furthermore, in a Baby-Friendly environment, you serve as a primary educator, empowering new parents with the confidence and skills they need to care for their newborns safely.
Brigham and Women’s is located in the Longwood Medical Area, which is incredibly busy but highly accessible via the "T" (Green Line).

About
Despite being the largest city in New England, Boston is relatively compact and highly navigable, making it easy to explore. It boasts an astounding number of historic sites and a wide range of other attractions. The birthplace of the American Revolution, it's a great place to learn about Colonial history in a way that's much more interesting than reading a textbook. Follow the 2.5-mile-long Freedom Trail that connects several sites, starting from Boston Commons, the country's oldest city park. Marked by a red stripe, the trail travels through the city's most historic neighborhoods, including downtown and the North End, concluding at the Charlestown waterfront. Plenty of modern delights also await, from whale-watching tours and exploring the Institute of Contemporary Art in the South Boston waterfront area to catching a Red Sox game at legendary Fenway Park.
