Join one of the most advanced pediatric critical care environments in the Southeast. This is a high-acuity, fast-paced PICU/Step-Down hybrid unit caring for some of the most complex pediatric cases in the region, including trauma, neuro, transplant, and cardiac overflow.
This is an excellent opportunity for experienced PICU nurses seeking exposure to ECMO, CRRT, and quaternary-level pediatric critical care.
Unit Overview
- 28-bed Pediatric ICU / Step-Down hybrid unit
- Caring for infants, children, and adolescents (0–18 years)
- Average daily census: ~23 patients
- Regional quaternary referral center for complex pediatric cases
- Strong interdisciplinary support team (RT, PT, Pharm, Dietitians, Rapid Response, etc.)
Shift Details
- Night Shift: 3x12 hours (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (4 shifts per 4-week schedule)
- Floating required within facility scope
- Self-scheduling model (based on unit needs)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-acuity pediatric critical care across ICU and step-down patients
- Manage ventilated patients and complex airway support
- Administer vasoactive drips, sedation, and emergency medications
- Monitor and manage ECMO and CRRT patients (with specialized teams)
- Perform advanced respiratory care including HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP, and ventilator management
- Manage arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, and hemodynamic monitoring
- Provide neurocritical care including ICP monitoring, EVD management, and post-neurosurgical care
- Deliver renal support care including dialysis and fluid management
- Respond to rapid deterioration using PEWS and rapid response protocols
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of PICU experience required
- Strong ability to manage high-acuity pediatric patients independently
- First-time travelers accepted (interview preferred)
- Must be comfortable floating within pediatric critical care scope
Certifications
- BLS (AHA Required)
- PALS (AHA Required)
Charting System
- Epic (Required)
Preferred Experience
- ECMO experience
- CRRT experience
- Charge RN experience
- Teaching hospital experience

Scheduling & Expectations
- Self-scheduling model (unit-dependent)
- Floating required within pediatric units
- Guaranteed hours subject to facility cancellation policy (1 shift/2 weeks)
- All RTO must be submitted at time of application
Additional Notes
- SC or Compact RN license required
- Must be prepared for high-acuity pediatric critical care environment
- Hurricane season (June–November): possible emergency staffing assignment
