Respiratory Therapist (Traveler) – SLMC Respiratory Therapy Services
Location: Milwaukee, WI
Facility Overview:
- Level III Trauma Center
- Level III NICU
- Comprehensive Stroke Center
- 933-bed facility
- COVID-19 vaccination required
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Respiratory Therapist to join our team at SLMC. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical experience in respiratory care, including ventilator management and critical care support across a diverse patient population.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide respiratory care to adult, geriatric, and occasional pediatric patients
- Manage ventilators and perform advanced respiratory procedures
- Administer treatments such as CPAP, BiPAP, and nebulizer therapy
- Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis
- Assist with intubation, extubation, and ventilator weaning
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
Patient Population:
- Primarily adult and geriatric patients
- Some pediatric patients in the Emergency Department
Patient Ratio:
- 1:1
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of experience (Respiratory Therapy)
- First-time travelers accepted upon review
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist) or RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist)
Required Skills:
- Ventilator management (AVEA, Servo U, LPU 1200, Hamilton vents)
- CPAP/BiPAP therapy
- Nebulizer treatments
- Arterial line placement
- Intubation and extubation
- Ventilator weaning
- ABG interpretation
- Use of transport and MRI-compatible ventilators
Technology & Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC
- Medication system: Pyxis
- Ventilators: AVEA, Servo U, LPU 1200, Parapack (MRI), Hamilton (transport)
Work Environment & Support:
- Floating required within all hospital units
- Orientation: Minimum one shift to learn workflow
Scheduling & Shifts:
- Shift: 12-hour Day Shifts (36 hours/week)
- Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
- On-Call: As needed
- Holiday Requirements: As needed
- Block scheduling: Not available
- Time-off requests: Up to 7 days (subject to approval)
