Definition of Position:
The Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) is responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals experiencing medical emergencies. This role involves triaging, assessing, and providing immediate care in a fast-paced environment. ER RNs work collaboratively with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver rapid care for a wide range of medical conditions, from minor injuries to life-threatening emergencies. Assesses, delegates, coordinates, and evaluates the nursing care provided. Ensures provision of quality care for selected groups of patients through utilization of nursing process, established standards of care, policies and procedures. This RN is responsible for the direction and supervision of any personnel assigned to them.

Essential Job Functions:
Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments of patients upon arrival, including vital signs, medical history, and current symptoms.
Triage: Prioritize patients based on the severity of their condition, ensuring that critical cases are attended first.
Emergency Care: Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and treatments as per physician orders. Perform emergency procedures like wound care, and splinting.
Monitoring: Continuously monitor patients' vital signs and response to treatments, adjusting interventions as needed.
Collaboration: Work closely with the medical team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and support staff.
Documentation: Accurately record patient information, treatment plans, and responses to care in electronic health records (EHR) or paper charts as required.
Patient Education: Provide patients and families with information regarding diagnoses, procedures, and follow-up care instructions.
Emergency Response: Respond to rapid response calls, code blue situations, or any critical situation requiring immediate intervention.
Patient Advocacy: Ensure that the patient s rights, dignity, and preferences are respected at all times while providing care.
Infection Control: Follow all infection control protocols to minimize the risk of infection for patients and healthcare staff.
Quality Improvement: Participate in the ongoing evaluation of care quality and suggest improvements in processes or procedures to optimize patient outcomes.
The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).
Agency nurses will be floated to other departments where they are qualified to perform patient care before core staff is floated.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education:
-Required: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
-Desired: BSN
Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations:
-Current RN license in the State of Oregon.
-ACLS, BLS, PALS, and TNCC certification required.
-Certifications specific to areas of clinical specialty preferred.
-CRASE training: If travel assignment extends beyond a 6-month period, CRASE training will be required.
Experience:
Required: None.
Desired: Previous Clinical Experience.
Skills:
Must have 1) strong clinical skills and critical thinking abilities; 2) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients and healthcare teams; 3) Ability to work under pressure
and in high-stress situations; 4) Knowledge of emergency procedures and protocols. 5) Ability to handle a diverse patient population and varying levels of acuity.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to 1) perceive the nature of sounds by the ear, or with prosthetic assist; 2) express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word; 3) perceive characteristics of objects through the eyes; 4) extend arms and hands in any direction; 5) seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands; 6) pick, pinch, or otherwise work with fingers; 7) perceive such attributes of objects or materials such as size, shape, temperature, or texture; and 8) stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. 9) Must be able to lift 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. 10) Continuous walking and standing. 11) Capable of working long shifts (often 12 hours), sometimes in high stress demanding situations. 12) Must be able to identify, match, and distinguish colors.
Working Conditions:
Inside environment, protected from the weather but not necessarily temperature changes. Subject to frequent exposure to infection, contagious disease, and hazardous materials and equipment. Occasionally subject to combative patients. Variable noise levels. Also subject to rapid pace, multiple stimuli, unpredictable environment, and critical situations. Shifts may include nights, weekends, and holidays, as emergency departments operate 24/7.
