Unit  Birthing Center/Mother Baby - Unit notes updated 8/8/2025 (MS) # L&D Beds:  6 "homelike" suites with private bathrooms where L&D occur w/ private showers # triage beds:   We do not have triage beds, all patients who are unscheduled visits are seen in the OB Emergency Department which is a 4 bed unit located withing the OB Department. # Postpartum beds: MB/PP area includes 11 private rooms # births per day, per year:   1050 Last year for births, 3000 OB ED and Outpatient visits. Certs: BLS, ACLS, NRP is required. Have in-house assist in NICU w/ STABLE. (ALSO cert - ) don't require FHM but train staff to have intermediate. L&D 2 yrs preferred & MB 1 year ok. Ok with 1st time travelers. Ratios:      Follow AWHONN L&D 1-2 MB 4 couplets FHM System:  Centricity FHM EMR:   EPIC Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Charge nurse for each side 24/7 & take an assignment Nurse Aides/OB tech:    OB techs OR on the unit - circulate & recovery then transfer to PP Weekend Requirement:     Every Other Weekend Call Requirement: Travelers are not eligible for call, but can pick up open shifts. Holidays:    Will participate in Holidays Scrub Color:  Scrubs are provided for L/D, Navy for the Mother Baby Unit Tele:  Tele can be placed on the floor, and is monitored in the Telemetry room. Vents  NO OB/Neonatologist in house:     Inhouse 24 OB Hospitalist, Neonatology Support 24/7 between MD/APP IV Team:   No IV Team RT 24/7:    RT 24/7 Pharmacy 24/7:     24/7 & Omnicell Shifts:    ALL 12 hours. Shifts begin at 0700 and 1900 and end at 0730 and 1930 Must Have: C-section experience required must be able circulate & recover. 3 years minimum experience Floating:   Cross coverage between units is expected Floor specific orientation:   1 Shift provided for onboarding, and 1 12-hour shift to orient to floor with preceptor. Common diagnosis / Types of patients:     25 weeks if NICU can accommodate, trying to get Level III NICU. Otherwise send to morgantown. High Risk , no MFM in house but have total med capabilities so can refer up & still manage in house. Additional Notes:  Designated as a Baby-Friendly birth facility. They have also earned their Advance Perinatal Care Certification & are certified by 'Cribs for Kids' as a National Safe Sleep Hospital, & are 1 of 21 hospitals in WV that participates in 'YES to Safe Sleep for Babies. They also have a sophisticated infant security system (Cuddles), lactation consultants, & Family-centered approach.
