Registered Nurse – Pediatric PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit)

Location: Washington, DC 20010
Duration: 13 Weeks | Shift: Night (4×12 hrs, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)

Job Overview

• Provide specialized nursing care to pediatric patients recovering from anesthesia in PACU
• Manage Phase I & Phase II recovery including pre/post-operative care
• Work in a Level I Trauma Center with high-acuity pediatric cases
• Ensure safe recovery through continuous monitoring and rapid intervention

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess pediatric patients post-anesthesia (infants to adolescents)
• Manage airway, ventilation, and hemodynamic stability
• Administer and monitor procedural/conscious sedation
• Provide care for ventilated patients and respiratory support
• Identify and respond to complications during recovery phase
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (RT, IV team, pharmacy, PT, etc.)
• Educate families on post-operative care and recovery expectations
• Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with protocols

Required Qualifications

• Active Washington, DC RN License (mandatory at submission)
• Minimum 2 years of Pediatric PACU experience (hard requirement)
• Experience in Level I Trauma Center
• Certifications: BLS & PALS
• Strong experience with:
  • Pediatric post-anesthesia care
  • Pre/post-operative patient management
  • Respiratory and sedation monitoring
