Registered Nurse – Pediatric PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit)
Location: Washington, DC 20010
Duration: 13 Weeks | Shift: Night (4×12 hrs, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Job Overview
- Provide specialized nursing care to pediatric patients recovering from anesthesia in PACU
- Manage Phase I & Phase II recovery including pre/post-operative care
- Work in a Level I Trauma Center with high-acuity pediatric cases
- Ensure safe recovery through continuous monitoring and rapid intervention
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess pediatric patients post-anesthesia (infants to adolescents)
- Manage airway, ventilation, and hemodynamic stability
- Administer and monitor procedural/conscious sedation
- Provide care for ventilated patients and respiratory support
- Identify and respond to complications during recovery phase
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (RT, IV team, pharmacy, PT, etc.)
- Educate families on post-operative care and recovery expectations
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with protocols
Required Qualifications
- Active Washington, DC RN License (mandatory at submission)
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric PACU experience (hard requirement)
- Experience in Level I Trauma Center
- Certifications: BLS & PALS
- Strong experience with:
- Pediatric post-anesthesia care
- Pre/post-operative patient management
- Respiratory and sedation monitoring
