Description
MRI Technologist I – Somerville, MA
Contract Duration: 20 Weeks (05/17/2026 – 10/03/2026)
Shift: Fri/Tue (06:30 – 19:00) & Every Other Sat/Sun (06:30 – 19:00)
Job Summary:
A state-of-the-art outpatient facility opened in 2022—is seeking a highly skilled MRI Technologist. This site utilizes a cutting-edge two-table approach to optimize patient throughput and workflow. You will work within a "2-tech model," performing routine outpatient exams (with and without contrast) for both clinical and research patients. This role requires expert knowledge of MRI safety, protocol optimization, and the ability to operate high-field Siemens equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Advanced Imaging: Safely perform MRI studies using Siemens 3T Vida scanners (Software Level XA 60).
- Two-Table Workflow: Participate in a high-efficiency model where patients are prepped and positioned on one table while the scanner is active with another.
- Contrast Administration: Insert IV catheters and perform intravenous injections of MR contrast agents using MR-compatible power injectors.
- Safety Gatekeeping: Act as the final checkpoint for MRI safety, screening all patients and visitors for contraindications (implants, pacemakers, etc.).
- Clinical Excellence: Select and optimize imaging protocols based on patient condition to ensure diagnostic-quality images.
- Point of Care: Perform Point of Care Testing (POCT) as required and accurately document all data in the EMR.
- Quality Control: Conduct scheduled QC procedures on the magnet and related equipment, reporting any malfunctions immediately.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Proficiency in routine outpatient MRI exams; experience with Siemens platforms is highly preferred.
- Certification: ARRT (MR) or ARMRIT certification is standard for MGH Imaging roles.
- Licensure: Active Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist (MRI) license.
- Technical Skills: Competency with MR-compatible power injectors and IV insertion.
- Safety: Deep understanding of MRI safety zones (I-IV) and emergency "quench" procedures.
Unit & Facility Details
- Address: Somerville, MA 02145.
- Technology: Siemens 3T Vida (XA 60 software).
- Team Model: 2 techs per scanner.
- Holiday Note: The department is closed on July 4th.
Financial & Logistics Notes
- On-Call: No on-call requirement.
- Start Date: May 17, 2026.
- Location Perks: Assembly Row is a premier mixed-use destination with high-end dining, retail, and a dedicated Orange Line T stop, making it one of the most accessible and desirable work locations in the Greater Boston area.
Clinical Spotlight: The Outpatient 3T Specialist
In a high-volume outpatient setting like Assembly Row, the MRI Tech must balance clinical precision with efficiency. Operating the Siemens 3T Vida requires a strong grasp of the XA 60 software to manage the increased signal-to-noise ratio and potential artifacts associated with 3T imaging. Because this site utilizes a two-table approach, your ability to multitask—positioning the next patient while monitoring the current scan—is essential to maintaining the department's workflow without compromising patient safety or image quality.
Assembly Row offers a modern, high-energy environment right on the Mystic River.
