Job Title: Surgical Technologist (OR Tech)
Location: Clinton Township, MI
Duration: 13 Weeks
 

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Registered Nurse and Surgical Team, the Surgical Technologist is responsible for preparing and maintaining the sterile field, handling surgical instruments, and supporting the surgical team during procedures. This role requires a strong understanding of surgical procedures, the ability to anticipate team needs, and a focus on patient safety and comfort throughout the perioperative process.
 

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in general surgical procedures by scrubbing in and maintaining a sterile field
• Prepare operating rooms, including setting up instruments, equipment, and supplies based on the procedure
• Ensure all surgical instruments and equipment are functioning properly prior to use
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team during procedures
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized operating room environment
• Adhere to infection control, safety, and hospital policies and procedures
• Handle and manage sterile supplies with cost-consciousness
• Respond to emergency situations as per established protocols
• Assist with patient preparation, transport, admission, and discharge from the OR
• Provide support and comfort to pre-operative patients while maintaining privacy and confidentiality
• Restock supplies and return equipment to designated storage areas
• Participate in ongoing education, audits, and departmental initiatives
• Assist in training or precepting new staff as needed
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Skills & Experience:

• Ability to lift and move patients as needed
• Ability to push, pull, and lift case carts, instrument trays, and equipment
• Capability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment with potential exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technologist preferred

Education:

• High school diploma or GED required
• Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program preferred

Certifications & Licensure:

• BLS certification required
