Description
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill and medically complex patients requiring extended hospitalization
- Monitor and manage patients with ventilators, tracheostomies, and complex respiratory conditions
- Administer medications, including IV drips, antibiotics, and titratable infusions, per physician orders
- Perform detailed patient assessments and promptly identify changes in condition
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (physicians, respiratory therapists, PT/OT, case management) to develop and adjust care plans
- Manage wound care, including pressure injuries, surgical wounds, and negative pressure wound therapy (wound vacs)
- Educate patients and families on disease processes, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic medical records (EMR)
- Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and patient safety standards
- Assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers, ensuring continuity of care
- Support rehabilitation goals by encouraging mobility and participation in therapy when appropriate
- Respond to emergencies and participate in rapid response or code situations as needed
