Job Description: Cardiovascular Interventional Technologist (Cath Lab)
 

Organization: Summa Health
Location: Akron Cath Lab (1300 74400), 45 Arch Street, Akron, OH 44304
Department: Cardiovascular Services / Cath Lab
Shift: 4x10-hour shifts (07:00 AM – 05:30 PM)
Call Requirement: Yes – every 6 weeks + 1 night per week
 

Position Summary

Under the supervision of a physician, the Cardiovascular Interventional Technologist operates fluoroscopic imaging equipment during cardiac and peripheral vascular procedures. The technologist also assists the cardiologist in diagnostic and interventional procedures by providing scrub support and ensuring high-quality patient care. The role requires strong clinical judgment, technical expertise, and the ability to respond effectively to changing patient conditions during invasive procedures.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate fluoroscopic imaging equipment during diagnostic, interventional cardiac, and peripheral vascular procedures
  • Assist physicians as scrub technologist during Cath Lab and EP procedures
  • Maintain sterile field and ensure strict adherence to aseptic technique
  • Monitor and document hemodynamic data using specialized computer systems
  • Support catheter and guidewire manipulation during procedures as required
  • Interpret and monitor ECG and pressure waveforms during procedures
  • Ensure radiation safety protocols are strictly followed
  • Assist in patient positioning, preparation, and post-procedure care
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and Cath Lab staff to ensure efficient workflow
  • Accurately document procedural events in electronic systems

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology

Certification & Licensure

  • ARRT Registered Radiologic Technologist (R.T. R) – required
  • Licensed by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) in accordance with Ohio Revised Code
  • BLS Certification – required
  • ACLS Certification – required or must be obtained within 1 year of hire/orientation
  • CVI, RCIS, or RCES certification preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year experience as Radiologic Technologist in diagnostic imaging, special procedures, Cath Lab, or EP Lab preferred

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology
  • Ability to operate Cath Lab equipment including catheters and guidewires
  • Proficiency in hemodynamic monitoring systems and data entry
  • Understanding of radiation safety standards and practices
  • Ability to assist in invasive cardiovascular procedures
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for patient and team interaction
  • Ability to lift, position, and transfer patients safely
  • Competence in using electronic medical record and hospital systems
  • Ability to work independently and exercise clinical judgment under pressure
