Respiratory Therapist – Contract Position

Location: Oshkosh WI

Department: Respiratory Therapy Services

Duration: 13 weeks

Shift: 3*12 Nights 36 hours

• Total Beds: 19
  • 9 Emergency Department (ED)
  • 10 Inpatient Med-Surg
• No ICU onsite (critical patients stabilized and transferred)

Position Overview

• Experience Required: Minimum 5 years
• First-Time Travelers: Accepted
• Patient Population: Neonates to geriatrics (primarily adult & geriatric)
• Patient Volume:
  • Med-Surg: 5–8 patients/day
  • ED volume varies

Common Diagnoses

• CHF
• COPD
• RSV
• Pneumonia
• COVID-19
• Respiratory failure
• Stroke
• Post-surgical (general surgery)

Clinical Scope & Responsibilities

• Assist with intubations
• Administer respiratory treatments (updrafts)
• Draw ABGs (sent to lab for analysis)
• Provide respiratory support in ED and Med-Surg
• Stabilize critical patients prior to transfer
• Assist interdisciplinary team when RT workload permits
• Work independently as the sole RT onsite

Equipment & Modalities

• No routine use of BiPAP or ventilators on the unit
• Possible ventilator use in ED for stabilization only
• CPAP allowed only if patient brings home equipment
• Ventilators: Hamilton (ED use only)

Requirements

• Certifications:
  • RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist)
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • NRP
• License: Active State License required
• EMR: EPIC (required experience)

Support Structure

• House Supervisor
• Director/Admin on-call (nights)
• Med-Surg: 2 RNs
• ED: 2–3 RNs
• CNAs
• Hospitalist / NP (24/7)
• ER Provider (24/7)
• eICU Physician support available
• RT Lead available by phone

Technology

• EMR: EPIC
• Medication System: Pyxis

Scheduling & Shifts

• Shift Options:
  • Days: 0600 – 1830
  • Nights: 1800 – 0630
• Hours: 36 hours/week (3x12s)
• Weekend Rotation: Every 3rd weekend (option for every other)
• On-Call: None
• Holidays: 50% of contract holidays required
• Schedule Pattern: Rotating block schedule (3 weeks on one shift, then rotates)

Orientation

• New Employee Orientation (NEO)
• 1 shift unit orientation
