Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Shift Details

  • Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM (12-hour shifts)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Hours per week: 36

Patient Population

  • Adults and Geriatrics

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years as a Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Must have Trauma Level 1 experience
  • 1 year of EPIC charting experience required

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license for South Carolina required (no pending licenses accepted)
  • Required certifications:
    • ACLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross, RQI acceptable)
    • BLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross, RQI acceptable)

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Proficient in Adult Critical Care
  • Experience with:
    • Extubation, nasal and oral airway placement, suctioning, pulmonary hygiene, sputum specimen collection, tracheostomy care
    • Administering respiratory medications including albuterol, Atrovent, combivent, flovent, inhaled steroids, ispurel, lidocaine, perforomist, pulmicort, racemic epinephrine, spiriva, terbutaline sulfate, tobramycin, xopenex
    • Delivering medication via aerosol mask, aerosol trach setup, Medihaler, Metered Dose Inhaler
    • Use of handheld, T-piece, and trach collar nebulizers
    • High flow nasal cannula and trach collar oxygen therapy
    • BiPAP, CPAP, troubleshooting high pressure alarms, and weaning from mechanical ventilation

Floating Policy

  • Floating to other units or campuses may be required as needed, limited to areas where the staff member is qualified and has documented competencies

Travel Experience

  • First-time travelers are accepted (prior travel experience not required)

Scheduling & Call-Off Policy

  • All time off and special scheduling requests must be submitted with application and approved at booking
  • Facility allows call off of 1 shift per 2 weeks

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check: 7-year history within 12 months of start, including alias and multi-state/county searches
  • Drug screening: 5-panel within 12 months, updated annually
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands
    • Negative TB test (True 2-step PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or Tspot) within 90 days of start
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within last 10 years (if working in high-risk areas)
    • Flu vaccine or approved exemption required annually
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity documentation (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination
  • Respirator fit test completed onsite during orientation
  • Photo for badge required prior to start (passport-style with specific background and no obstructions)
  • Completion of online orientation modules and pass/fail testing prior to start (approximately 12-16 hours)
  • Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests required

Additional Notes

  • Driver’s license required immediately upon signing for computer access and must be carried on duty
  • Must comply with facility-specific policies and annual renewals of certifications and competencies
  • HIPAA and safety training required annually
  • Education verification and licensure primary source verification must be current within 30 days of start

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner within the last year
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • Experience with Epic charting system
