Description
Medical Physicist – Radiation Therapy
Compensation: $80.00 – $120.00 per hour
Sign-On Bonus: $25,000
Additional Benefits:

- Residency stipend up to $20,000
- Hybrid flexibility (primarily on-site with up to 1 day/week remote)
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Physicist to support radiation oncology services. This role is primarily on-site and plays a critical part in ensuring the safe, accurate, and effective delivery of radiation therapy treatments. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, and therapists to maintain high clinical and technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and review policies and procedures to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all radiation therapy equipment, including linear accelerators and brachytherapy systems
- Oversee daily quality assurance (QA) and output checks of radiation-producing equipment to ensure optimal performance
- Conduct acceptance testing, commissioning, calibration, and ongoing QA for new and existing equipment
- Ensure compliance with shielding requirements and radiation safety standards
- Supervise and support the technical work of dosimetrists and radiation therapists
- Participate in intraoperative radiation therapy (IOeRT) procedures and verify equipment readiness prior to treatment
- Collaborate with clinical teams on treatment planning for:
- External Beam Radiation Therapy (EBRT)
- Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS)
- Brachytherapy and High Dose Rate (HDR) treatments
- Assist in treatment planning and monitor patients during HDR procedures
- Evaluate and implement updates to treatment planning systems, calculation methods, and record-and-verify software
Qualifications
Education:
- Master’s degree in Medical Physics, Physics, or a related field (required)
- PhD in Medical Physics or related discipline (preferred)
Experience:
- 3–5 years of clinical experience in radiation oncology (highly preferred)
Certifications & Licensure:
- Board Certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics by the American Board of Radiology or American Board of Medical Physicists (required)
- Eligibility to serve as an Authorized Medical Physicist per Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (highly preferred)
- If not already certified by ABR, must obtain certification within 3 years of hire (preferred)
