Description

Registered Nurse (ER/Med Surg) - Travel/Contract

Location: Marysville, Kansas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Primarily assigned to Med/Surg floor with additional support in the Emergency Room (ER) as needed, depending on experience.
  • Preference for candidates with previous Critical Access Hospital (CAH) experience; the facility is a 26-bed CAH with an active ER.
  • Charge nurse experience preferred; may serve as charge nurse on some night shifts.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas.
  • Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service).
  • Proof of eligibility to work (I9 attestation).
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year criminal history (all locations lived/worked in past 7 years)
    • Social Security trace
    • Nationwide and county checks
    • Sex offender registry
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (updated every contract renewal)
    • State-specific exclusion list checks for Kansas and Missouri.
  • Primary source verification of RN license (NURSYS verification required).
  • Proof of 2 clinical references (hospital evaluations accepted).
  • Completed employment application/resume.
  • Skills checklist for applicable unit (updated annually).
  • Performance and internal evaluations if employed over 1 year (updated annually).
  • Signed orientation safety manual acknowledgement (HIPAA, OSHA, Joint Commission training).

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Initial physical exam, updated annually, confirming ability to meet physical demands.
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for all travelers)
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year, updated annually. For past positives, a clear chest X-ray within 1 year and annual TB questionnaire required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination documentation required for new candidates starting during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); declinations accepted.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required; medical and religious exemptions subject to approval.
  • Drug screening: 10-panel test within 1 year of start, updated annually.

Additional Information

  • Scrub/dress code: Orientation and post-orientation scrubs may be any color; solid colors preferred post-orientation.
  • Locals are accepted for this travel/contract position.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a small, dynamic Critical Access Hospital setting with a mix of Med/Surg and ER responsibilities during night shifts.
