Job Opportunity: Cardiac Cath Lab RN

Position Details

• Employment Type: Contractor
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 10-hour day shifts (07:00 - 17:30)
• Hours per Week: 40
• Schedule: Four 10-hour days per week mandatory
• On Call: Approximately 7-9 call shifts per month, including one weekend on call per month

  • Overnight on call hours: 17:30 through 07:00
  • Weekend on call: Friday 17:30 through Monday 07:00
  • Self-scheduling call with 30-minute response time
  • No sleep rooms available during on call
• Weekend Rotation: 1 weekend on call per month (included in call shifts)
• Holiday Expectations: Vary based on need

Facility & Unit Overview

• Cardiac Cath Lab with 3 labs and 1 hybrid OR
• Level 1 Trauma Center with Level III NICU
• Magnet Designation and Primary Stroke Center
• Patient types: Adult outpatient and inpatient interventional cardiac services
• Procedures include diagnostic caths, interventional thrombectomy, stenting, right heart caths, device placements (Impella, IABP), AAA repair, TCAR, TAVR, watchman, EP lab studies (generator exchanges, ablations, cardioversions, TEE, cryo, loop recorders, pacemaker placements)
• Patient ratio: 1:1
• Typical volume: 12-15 procedures per day
• Team composition per room: 1 RN + 2 Techs or 2 RNs + 1 Tech; RN handles sedation and monitoring, Tech or RN scrubbed in (RN does not use fluoroscopy)
• Hybrid OR team includes OR, Cath, and IR personnel

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Cath Lab Technologist, including experience within the last year
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
• ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) or RTR (Registered Radiologic Technologist) certification
• IEMA (Illinois Emergency Management Agency) certification
• Experience with TR band placement and removal
• Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system

Orientation & Training

• 1 day hospital orientation
• EPIC training or test out option available
• Approximately 1 week of unit-specific orientation

Unit Support

• CNA and transporter support depending on staffing
• Charge RN or Charge Tech available
• Lab coordinator and unit secretary present
• 24/7 physician support
• Code team available as needed
• Bedside monitoring without telemetry tech
• Phlebotomy services available but not typically utilized in the lab

Equipment & Systems

• EPIC (required), EPIC Cupid (preferred)
• Alaris infusion pumps
• Pyxis medication dispensing system
• Zoll defibrillator
• Phillips fluoroscopy machine
• Merge Hemodynamics system
• Datascope IABP monitoring
