Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Work Environment

• Medical-Surgical unit with 32 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6
• Weekend requirement: 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week period
• Float requirement: Yes, within scope of practice
• No on-call requirement
• Scheduling: Option for 36 or 48-hour shifts; block scheduling handled case-by-case
• Documentation system: EPIC
• Scrub color: Any, as long as no hospital logo

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
• Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Candidate Requirements & Conditions

• First-time travelers accepted; local travelers not accepted
• Physical exam within 12 months of start
• Fit mask test required within 1 year of start; must be renewed annually
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination accepted
  • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history of chickenpox
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); declinations not accepted
• Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (New Mexico placements only)
• Background checks: 7-year history including SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
• Education verification required (highest level of education)
• Clear headshot photo required for badge
• Employment application and 7-year work history verification required
• Unit-specific skills checklist required annually

• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement and HIPAA compliance required
• References: Internal only; no external references required for clearance
• Documentation must be accurate; vaccine records cannot state “per history” or similar phrases
• Candidates must complete employee vehicle registration form prior to start
