Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Job Description

Role Overview:
The Department of the Interior (DOI), Office of the Facilities and Administrative Services (OFAS), Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Branch (OSHE), provides safety, health, and environmental services for occupants of the Stewart Lee Udall DOI Building (Udall Building) and oversees operations of the Wellness Center. The Wellness Center delivers walk-in nursing care, emergency triage services, and employee wellness programs that support DOI’s workforce health and readiness initiatives. The Wellness Center handles approximately 1,000 visits annually for day-to-day first aid, convenient care, and wellness services. The wellness center also provides four health/wellness related presentations per year, coordinates with the American Red Cross three blood drives, and participates in the OSHE Safety Fair. Provides direct patient care in a clinical/occupational health setting, supporting healthcare providers in delivering safe and effective services to employees and visitors.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver basic nursing care including vital signs, wound care, immunizations, and medication administration under RN/physician supervision
  • Assist with employee health services, screenings, and wellness programs
  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with federal guidelines
  • Support infection control and workplace safety initiatives
  • Prepare exam rooms, manage medical supplies, and ensure equipment readiness
  • Respond to minor medical emergencies and provide first aid as needed
  • Educate patients on health maintenance and follow-up care

Requirements:

  • Active LPN license (state-approved)
  • BLS certification (often required)
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience.
  • Ability to meet federal facility suitability, credentialing, and security requirements.
  • Experience in outpatient, occupational health, or clinical settings preferred
  • Strong communication, organization, and patient care skills
