Travel Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Cardio/Neurovascular Med-Surg/Telemetry
Location: Dothan, Alabama
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Work Details
- 42-bed Cardio/Neurovascular Med-Surg/Telemetry unit
- Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Weekly hours: 36 (block scheduling available; every other weekend required)
- Patient ratio: 1:6 (high acuity)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alabama
- Minimum of 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Current BLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with dysrhythmias
- Experience administering cardiac drips including Cardizem, Tridil, and Amiodarone
Required Certifications & Licensure
- Active Registered Nurse license in Alabama or compact license (no pending status; must be in good standing)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification (must be current within 1 year and updated annually; required for all RNs except Pediatrics, NICU, and Surgery)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check: 7-year criminal history, sex offender, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Drug testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually; instant/rapid tests not accepted
- Physical exam: Initial and updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit mask test: Annual, must be completed within 12 months prior to start (specific approved mask models only)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Flu vaccine (mandatory for all starting on or after 9/15; no declinations except medical/religious exemptions on facility form)
- COVID vaccine (voluntary)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: titer or 2 vaccines required; booster or signed declination if low titer
- Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required for all candidates
- Flu and COVID vaccine documentation must be submitted prior to start or as required by facility policies
Additional Requirements & Policies
- Must live at least 90 miles from the facility (no local candidates)
- Return to Office (RTO) days preferred: 3–5 days, maximum 7 days per 13-week contract
- Former permanent staff ineligible for 10 years
- Scrubs: Navy bottoms and white top required
- Compliance documents due 1 week prior to start
- Facility-specific modules must be completed by the Friday before orientation (modules sent directly to candidate)
- Photo for badge: Passport-style headshot with light background, no nose rings; must be submitted within 72 hours of signing contract
- Shirley’s Law APS Clearance Form: Must be hand-signed and completed prior to orientation; clearance required before starting
- Name on driver’s license, social security card, and RN license must match exactly; discrepancies must be resolved before start
- Two clinical references required, from within the last 12 months (up to 18 months if necessary)
- Core competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency exams required as applicable
- HIPAA attestation and facility orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
