Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit: 5 Central - 28 bed high acuity medical-surgical acute care unit specializing in post-operative care
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on a high acuity medical-surgical unit focused on post-operative patients.
- Work night shifts with every other weekend and every other holiday off.
- Time off requests can be approved up to 40 hours.
- Must adhere to the facility’s float policy.
- Epic electronic health record experience is required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia.
- Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, 3 shifts per week.
- Every other weekend and every other holiday off.
- Option to work 36 or 48 hours per week.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio approximately 1:4.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of identity (government-issued photo ID).
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification (BSN preferred; ASN minimum if no BSN).
- Drug screening: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually.
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (no exemptions allowed).
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Qgold within required timeframes).
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer required, no declinations).
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer positive or appropriate follow-up testing.
- Varicella (2 vaccines or titer; declination allowed but must be documented).
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (no exemptions).
- Physical exam within 12 months attesting ability to meet job demands.
- Completion of facility-specific forms including professional appearance guidelines, release authorization, TB screening, and traveler compliance.
- Pass/fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions.
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations.
- Employment application and skills checklist as applicable.

- Fingerprinting required for Behavioral Health candidates only.
- Education verification must be done through a third-party vendor.
- Official transcripts acceptable in lieu of diploma; photocopies not accepted.
- Some certifications (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC) may be required or preferred depending on unit assignment.
- Candidates with latex allergy must complete a specific questionnaire.
- CPI certification required only for Behavioral Health nurses.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
