Description

Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 48 hours (can approve 40 hours for time off)
Schedule: Every other weekend and every other holiday


Unit Description

  • 28-bed high acuity medical-surgical acute care unit specializing in post-operative care
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:4
  • Care team includes Registered Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days
  • Education verification required; BSN preferred, ASN accepted if no BSN
  • Official transcript acceptable; photocopy of diploma not accepted
  • Drug testing within 2 months of start, updated annually (10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl)
  • Physical exam within 12 months attesting ability to meet physical demands of position
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (no declinations/exemptions)
    • 2-step TB test or Qgold (Tspot not accepted); chest x-ray if positive
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer; no declinations)
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody positive titer or antigen titer as per protocol
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or titer; declination accepted but must be documented)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (no exemptions)
  • Fingerprinting required for Behavioral Health candidates only
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Registry check required only for Behavioral Health or specific unit candidates

Documentation & Other Requirements

  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluation
  • Completed employment application/resume
  • Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units
  • Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged
  • Release authorization, TB screening, and traveler compliance forms must be completed prior to start
  • Fit testing required for patient-facing clinical roles, completed onsite if needed
  • Latex allergy questionnaire required if applicable

Additional Notes

  • Orientation includes pass/fail cardiac rhythm assessment with remediation if needed
  • Facility may require additional certifications or documentation based on unit assignment
  • Radiation badges are not provided for new candidates; existing badge holders will be grandfathered

This position offers 36 or 48 hours per week with flexibility for time off approval. The role is night shift focused in a high acuity med-surg telemetry environment requiring strong clinical skills and Epic experience.
