Job Opportunity: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)
Position Details
- Employment Type: Contractor
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour Night Shift
- Hours per Week: 36
Facility Overview
- 123-bed facility
- Trauma Level III
- Primary Stroke Center
- No NICU level
- Covid vaccine required
Unit Information
- Emergency Department with 14 beds
- Patient population includes neonates through geriatrics
- Pediatric patients comprise about 1% of the population (pediatric experience preferred)
- Typical patient cases: chest pain, abdominal pain, stroke, neuro, air transport AMI patients, and approximately 2 psychiatric patients per week
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5 on nights
- Tech-to-patient ratio: 1:10
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Wisconsin
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Required certifications: ACLS, PALS, BLS, TNCC, NIHSS
- Experience assisting with RSI/intubation
- Experience with procedural sedation
- Experience managing blood products including mass transfusion
- Experience with stroke/neuro alert criteria
- Experience in cardiac care including STEMI
Skills and Responsibilities
- Triage and assist with RSI/intubation
- Procedural sedation and restraints
- Management of blood products including mass transfusion
- Experience with stroke/neuro alert criteria and trauma activations/care
- Cardiac care including STEMI
Support and Resources
- Tech support available (1:10 ratio)
- Charge nurse carries mostly full patient load
- Phlebotomy assistance available as needed
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
- Hospitalist coverage 24/7
- Midlevel provider coverage from 10 AM to 10 PM
- Bedside and nurse station telemetry monitoring
Orientation and Scheduling
- Orientation: 1 day hospital + 1 day unit orientation
- Weekend rotation every 3rd weekend
- Holiday work expected every other holiday
- Time off approval up to 7 days; longer requires additional approval
- No on-call responsibilities
Technology and Equipment
- Epic charting system preferred
- Alaris infusion pumps
- Pyxis medication dispensing system
