Job Title: RN – MedSurg/Telemetry
Location: Winston-Salem, NC
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift Details: 12hr Day Shift (36 hours/week) – 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM | Every other weekend | No call | 75% holidays required
Job Summary
The MedSurg/Telemetry Registered Nurse provides comprehensive care to adult patients with a variety of medical conditions in a high-acuity, academic medical center. The RN is responsible for patient assessment, monitoring, medication administration, and coordination of care in a collaborative team environment.

- Level I Trauma Center
- Academic Medical Center (Teaching Hospital)
- Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
Unit Overview
- 26-bed MedSurg/Telemetry unit
- RN ratio: 1:5–6 | CNA ratio: 1:8–9
- Minimum 2 years MedSurg/Tele experience required
- First-time travelers considered with strong MS background
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct and indirect patient care
- Monitor telemetry and interpret cardiac rhythms
- Administer medications including PCA and cardiac drips
- Perform IV starts, lab draws, wound care, and dressing changes
- Manage chest tubes, trachs, drains, and other devices
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
- Document care accurately in EPIC
Patient Population & Conditions
- General medical patients: diabetes, GI, respiratory, renal conditions
- Wound care, chest tubes, tracheostomies
- Patients requiring telemetry monitoring
Required Qualifications
- Active RN License – Required
- BLS, ACLS, NIHSS – Required
- Minimum 2 years MedSurg/Telemetry experience
Skills Required
- Telemetry interpretation
- Chest tube and trach management
- IV/PIV insertion and lab draws
- PCA pump management (Fentanyl, Ketamine, Dilaudid)
- Gtt management (Heparin, occasional Amiodarone)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Department Support
- CNA support for ADLs and patient care
- Charge nurse and HUC support
- Phlebotomy (routine labs)
- Rapid Response Team
- RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist available 24/7
- Centralized telemetry monitoring
Technology & Equipment
- EMR: EPIC
- IV Pump: Alaris
- Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
- Equipment: Phillips vital sign monitors, lifts
Floating Requirements
- Required to float to other MedSurg units
Scheduling Details
- Every other weekend rotation
- No on-call requirements
- 75% holiday requirement
- 6-week schedule cycle
- RTO subject to Nurse Manager approval
