Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Department (ED)

Facility Overview

  • 207 licensed beds
  • No Trauma Designation; not a teaching hospital
  • Accredited Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
  • Radius rule: Traveler's permanent address must be 50+ miles from home unit

Unit Details

  • Minimum 2 years ED experience required
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Patient types/common diagnoses: Stroke, CHF, electrolyte imbalance, arrhythmias, respiratory arrest, sepsis, COPD, falls, MVCs, and more
  • Patient ratios: RN 1:3-4; CNA 1:8-10

Required Licensure & Certifications

  • Active RN license
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, CPI (required); TNCC (preferred)

Key Skills

  • General ED skillset: Cardiac rhythm interpretation, critical care drips, vent management, PIV starts, TNK/TPA administration, conscious sedation, triage

Department Support

  • CNA, Receptionist/HUC
  • Charge nurse (may or may not have patients)
  • Phlebotomy (peripheral draws)
  • IV/VAT Team (11a-7p, 11p-7a)
  • Resource Nurse (as staffing allows)
  • RT (24/7), Hospitalist (24/7)
  • Intensivist: In-house until 11p M-F / 7p Sat-Sun; VCC coverage + on-call

Technology & Equipment

  • EMR: Epic
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitors: Philips
  • Unit-specific: Bladder scanner, IV pumps, SCDs, telemetry monitoring, vents, BiPAP

Floating Requirements (mandatory; decline if not agreeable)

  • Float per Region 1 needs, within scope: Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, any Freestanding ED in region, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH)
  • Paid for mid-shift travel time (remain on clock)

Orientation

  • NEO + 2 days departmental

Scheduling & Requirements

  • Shifts: 12hr Day Shift - 36 hrs (0700-1900, 0900-2100, 1100-2300, 1300-0100, 1500-0300, 1900-0700)
  • Weekend: Every other (EOW)
  • No call
  • Holidays: Travelers work 75%
  • RTO: Up to 6 days (excl. holidays); add time to contract end if hours short
