Registered Nurse – Endoscopy (GI Lab)

Location: Elmira, NY

Contract Duration: 13 Weeks (Starts ASAP – 07/23/2026)

Shift: Days | 06:30 – 15:00 or 08:00 – 16:30 (Variable)

Job Summary:

Seeking a versatile Endoscopy RN to support both inpatient and outpatient GI procedures across two campuses. This role requires a nurse who can manage the fast-paced environment of a GI Lab, providing high-level care during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The facility is open to OR nurses who possess specific Endoscopy training or experience. You will be responsible for the full peri-procedural continuum, from pre-op assessment to intra-procedural sedation monitoring and post-op recovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procedural Support: Assist physicians during colonoscopies, EGDs, and more complex GI interventions.
  • Sedation Monitoring: Administer and monitor moderate (conscious) sedation, ensuring patient airway patency and hemodynamic stability throughout the procedure.
  • Patient Assessment: Perform systematic physiological and psychological data collection, focusing on readiness for anesthesia and procedure-specific risks.
  • Emergency Readiness: Remain calm and efficient in emergency situations (e.g., respiratory depression, GI bleed) following established hospital protocols.
  • Scope Management: Demonstrate knowledge of the handling and basic troubleshooting of endoscopic instrumentation and environment.
  • Education: Identify patient and family learning needs regarding prep, procedural expectations, and post-discharge care.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: Previous Endoscopy/GI Lab experience is required. (OR nurses with Endoscopy training will be considered).
  • Licensure: Active New York (NY) State RN License.
  • Certifications: AHA BLS & ACLS (Required).
  • Scheduling: Must be flexible with variable day/evening start times.
  • On-Call: Required usually once a week and every 6th weekend. Flexibility to switch call with team members is available if coordinated properly.

Unit & Facility Details

  • Address: Elmira, NY 14905.
  • Department: Endoscopy (6712).
  • Patient Population: Covers both Inpatients and Outpatients at two campuses.
  • Core Values: Accountability, Caring/Compassionate Environment, and Collaboration are strictly upheld.

Clinical Spotlight: Peri-Procedural Safety

In the GI Lab, the "Time Out" and post-procedure recovery are critical safety milestones. As the RN, you are responsible for monitoring for the most common complications of endoscopy, such as perforation or adverse reactions to sedation. Your ability to recognize early signs of respiratory distress or vagal responses ensures a safe outcome for high-risk populations.

Financial & Logistics Notes

  • Reason for Opening: FMLA/LOA coverage.
  • Pay Multipliers: Overtime and holiday rates typically follow standard New York region contract multipliers.
  • Location: Elmira is located in the Southern Tier of New York, providing a community feel with close proximity to the Finger Lakes wine region—perfect for weekend exploring.
