Description

Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Pre-Admission Testing Registered Nurse (RN), where your expertise will play a vital role in preparing patients for their upcoming procedures and surgeries. In this energetic and rewarding role, you will conduct comprehensive pre-admission assessments, coordinate testing, and ensure patients are fully informed and ready for their procedures. This is an urgent hiring opportunity and candidate must be able to complete onboarding tasks within 5 days.

 

Temporary Assignment:

Start:5/4/26 - 9/4/26

Shift: 7:30a - 5:30p

Length: 18 weeks

Hours: 40 hours per week

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed patient assessments including vital signs, medical history, and current health status to determine readiness for procedures.
  • Coordinate pre-admission testing such as laboratory work, imaging (including CT scans), and specialized assessments like echocardiography or pulmonary function tests.
  • Educate patients about their upcoming procedures, including preparation instructions, potential risks, and post-procedure care.
  • Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner to document assessments, test results, and patient interactions accurately.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, anesthesiologists, and case managers to ensure comprehensive patient preparation.
  • Manage specimen collection and processing, including phlebotomy, specimen labeling, and transportation to laboratories.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and infection control protocols while maintaining patient safety and confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Valid RN license in good standing with current VA state registration.
  • Proven 2 yrs. experience in medical-surgical nursing, outpatient clinics, or pre-operative settings.
  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
  • Experience with IV insertion, medication administration, aseptic technique, and sterile processing procedures.
  • Ability to perform physical examinations and vital signs assessment accurately.
  • Excellent communication skills to educate patients effectively and coordinate with healthcare teams.
  • Critical care experience or background in emergency medicine is a plus; familiarity with trauma centers or Level I/II trauma experience is advantageous.
