Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical-Surgical / Telemetry Unit

Schedule & Shifts

• RN Shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM / 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Scheduling:
  • No self or block scheduling
  • Manager-created schedule based on unit needs
  • Rotating shifts typically: 2 weeks days / 2 weeks nights
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Rotational (as needed)
• Call Requirement: None
  
  Key Responsibilities
• Deliver safe, patient-centered nursing care
• Manage patient assignments and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
• Administer medications and treatments, including titratable drips (non-cardiac)
• Monitor patient conditions and respond to changes
• Float to other MS, MS-Tele, or IMC units for lower acuity patients as needed
  
  Clinical Skills & Requirements
• Minimum Experience: 1 year RN experience (first-time travelers accepted)
• Required Certifications:
  • BLS
  • Active RN License
• Drip Management:
  • Titrate drips (excluding cardiac drips)
  • Common drips include: heparin, bumex, lasix
    
    Support Staff
  • Charge Nurse:
    • Day shift: 2 (with assignments)
    • Night shift:
      • 2 charges: take assignments
      • 1 charge: no assignment
  • Patient Care Technicians (PCTs):
    • Ratio: ~1:10–12 (may vary)
    • Responsibilities: vitals, blood glucose monitoring, EKGs, telemetry setup, ADLs
      
      Respiratory & Telemetry
    • Respiratory Therapy (RT):
      • Manages BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow O2, ABGs, and treatments
      • RNs primarily monitor patients
    • Telemetry Monitoring:
      • Centralized monitor tech observes rhythms
      • RNs are not required to interpret telemetry strips
        
        Floating
      • Required to float within:
        • Medical-Surgical
        • Telemetry
        • IMC (lower acuity patients only)
          
          Submission Requirements
          Must live outside 50-mile radius of facility
