Day Shift Med/Surg RN – Pagosa Springs, CO

 

Contract Duration: 13 Weeks 

Shift: Days | 06:30 – 18:30 (3x12-Hour Shifts)

Guaranteed Hours: 36 Hours Per Week

 

Job Summary

A critical access hospital nestled in the San Juan Mountains, is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN for a 13-week contract. This role requires a versatile clinician capable of providing high-quality inpatient and observation care. You will be responsible for a broad range of duties, from comprehensive physical assessments and cardiac rhythm interpretation to complex discharge planning aimed at reducing readmission rates. Given the facility's size, the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a tight-knit interdisciplinary team is essential.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Clinical Oversight: Perform comprehensive assessments, develop care plans, and monitor patients for subtle changes in condition, reporting abnormal findings via SBAR format.
  • Technical Interventions: Administer medications, IV therapy, blood products, and oxygen therapy. Operate and troubleshoot infusion pumps and cardiac monitoring equipment.
  • Cardiac Care: Demonstrate proficiency in rhythm interpretation and take immediate appropriate action for arrhythmias.
  • Documentation: Utilize Cerner EHR and Care Compass to organize and document all care tasks, assessments, and patient education.
  • Patient Advocacy: Provide education on disease processes, wound care, and pain management while ensuring patient dignity and confidentiality.
  • Safety & Compliance: Strictly adhere to National Patient Safety Goals, universal precautions, and infection prevention practices.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of Med/Surg experience is required (as per Job Details).
  • Licensure: Active Colorado (CO) RN License in good standing.
  • Certifications: * AHA BLS (Required upon hire).
    • ACLS & PALS (Required, or ability to obtain within 3 months).
  • Technical Skills: Cerner EHR experience is a hard requirement.
  • Physical Ability: Must be capable of "Heavy Work," including lifting, pushing, and assisting with patient positioning/transfers.

You will be expected to use the SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) framework during shift handoffs and when escalating concerns to providers.
