🔑 Core Requirements

• 2+ years PICU experience (required)
• First-time travelers accepted ✅
• Certifications:
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • PALS
  • NRP (preferred, not required)

👉 Big plus: they’re open to first-time travelers, which is rare for ICU roles

🏥 Unit Snapshot

• 6-bed PICU → very small unit
• Ratios: 1:2
• No CNAs → nurses do more total care
• Staffing: 3–4 RNs per shift

👉 Small unit = tight team + higher visibility + less anonymity

👶 Patient Population

Common cases:

• DKA, Sepsis, Respiratory failure
• Neuro (post-crani, EVD drains)
• Ortho post-ops (spine, hips)
• Some cardiac (minimal)

NOT included:

• ❌ Trauma
• ❌ Transplants

👉 This is more of a mixed acuity PICU, not a high-end tertiary center

⚙️ Skills They Expect

You need to be comfortable with:

• Drips:
  • Pressors
  • Insulin
  • Heparin
  • Sedation & pain infusions
• Lines & care:
  • Central lines (CVL)
  • PIVs
  • Wound care / wound vacs
  • Drains
• Telemetry + EKG competency
  • Must PASS an EKG test before starting

🔄 FLOATING (Big Factor)

Highly preferred:

• Cross-trained to:
  • Adult ICU
  • Med/Tele

Possible floating to:

• NICU (occasionally)
• Stepdown / Adult ICU (if experienced)

👉 Translation:

• This is not a PICU-only job
• Flexibility = key to getting submitted

⏰ Schedule

• 3x12s, BUT alternating weeks:
  • Week 1: 4 shifts
  • Week 2: 3 shifts
• Every other weekend
• No call

👉 That 4-day week is mandatory (some people miss this)

📋 Time Off Rules

• Up to 7 days RTO allowed
  • Must extend contract if taking a full week
• Only 1 weekend off request per contract
• Holidays:
  • Work 2 out of 3

• EMR: Meditech Expanse (not Epic)
• IV Pumps: Alaris
• Meds: Pyxis

👥 Support

• RT: 24/7
• Intensivist: 24/7
• Hospitalist: on call
• No IV team → you handle most access
