Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Facility: Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center – University Hospital
Location: Columbus, OH
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: Night Shift (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Schedule: 3x12s (36 hours/week), Every Other Weekend

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced PCU Registered Nurse (RN) to join the 17 North Mixed Acuity Unit at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. This 32-bed stepdown unit provides care for patients with a wide range of medical and post-surgical conditions requiring progressive care-level monitoring.

Unit Highlights

  • 32-bed Stepdown/PCU unit
  • Average daily census: 25–32 patients
  • Mixed acuity: medical and pre/post-surgical patients
  • Patient Population: Adult

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, patient-centered care in a progressive care setting
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms and respond to changes
  • Manage patients requiring telemetry and stepdown-level care
  • Administer medications, including blood products and cardiac drips (non-titrating)
  • Perform IV therapy, central line, and PICC line management
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for optimal patient outcomes
  • Participate in rapid response and code teams
  • Maintain accurate documentation using Epic EMR
  • Float to other units within the organization as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Active RN license (Ohio or Compact)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/Stepdown experience
  • Experience with similar patient populations and acuity levels
  • BLS & ACLS certifications (AHA)
  • NIHSS certification
  • Experience with Epic charting system
  • Strong skills in telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation

Preferred Skills

  • IV therapy and phlebotomy
  • Central line/PICC management
  • Respiratory support (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, tracheostomy care)
  • Heparin protocols and insulin drips
  • Wound care and wound vac management
  • Pre- and post-surgical patient care

Additional Details

  • Floating: Required within OSU system
  • Call: Not required
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Orientation: 36 hours
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
