Registered Nurse – Emergency Department

Location: Danville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN with 5+ years of ED experience. Candidates with combined ICU and ED experience will also be considered. The position is based in a 31-bed Emergency Room with 2 triage rooms, serving all patient ages including behavioral health and acute patients.


Work Schedule

  • 36 hours per week guaranteed
  • Rotating weekends/as needed
  • No call requirements
  • Float as needed

Unit & Patient Care Details

  • Patient ratio typically 1:4, with exceptions during high volume or special circumstances
  • Electronic Health Records primarily MedHost for ED; Meditech used for admit holds and behavioral health patients
  • Serves a diverse patient population (all ages)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (Handle with Care) – available on-site

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
  • Minimum 5 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • PALS or ENPC certification

  • Strong Emergency Room experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Orientation occurs bi-weekly on Tuesdays
  • Candidates must be located 60 miles or more from the facility to qualify for travel status
  • Facility is a 250-bed academic community hospital with comprehensive surgical and emergency services
  • Located in a small city with a mix of small-town charm and city amenities, near the Dan River with parks and cultural attractions

Note: All candidates must complete clear screenings prior to start.
