7p-7a, every other weekend, Will float to other ICUs in the Valley- Meridian Medical Center and Nampa Medical Center
Unit Notes
Department: Critical Care | RN
- Unit: Intensive Care Unit Boise Hospital Flr 3
- # of Beds:
- SICU (neuro ICU patients are on this floor as well) – 16
- MICU – 16
- Separate units but staffed as a combined unit
- Nurse:Patient Ratios: 1:1 and 1:2
- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Common Diagnoses/Types of Patients:
CABG, CVA, subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracerebral brain hemorrhage, GI bleeds, DKA, STEMI, septic shock, OD, respiratory failure, neuro surgery, open hearts. Travelers do not need experience with CRRT, ECMO, or balloon pump and will not receive these patients. See all ICU patient types except trauma, burns, or transplants. - Experience or “Must Have” Skills:
Must have 2 years ICU experience. Prefer experience in a similar size or larger ICU and hospital. - Are RNs Required to Titrate Drips: Yes
- Common Titratable and/or Set Rate Drips:
Dopamine, epi, norepi, cardene, nitro, neo, vasopressin, diltiazem, insulin, esmolol - Charge Nurse/House Supervisor:
Charge nurse on each unit; does not routinely take an assignment. Resource nurse available on each unit. - Are There Nurse Aids on This Unit/Ratios:
Yes, 1:8.- Days: 2 CNAs per unit
- Nights: 1–1.5 CNAs per unit
- Hospitalist or Intensivist In House: Yes, both
- RT in ICU 24/7: Yes – minimum of 2 RTs staffed in each ICU
- RT Equipment: Vents, BiPAP, CPAP
- Are There Tele/Monitor Techs on This Unit? Are RNs Required to Read Their Own Strips:
RNs monitor and read their own strips; Spacelabs used. - Shifts & Scheduling:
12-hour shifts, 7:00–7:30. Travel RNs utilized to fill staffing needs after staff schedule is completed. Efforts made to group night shifts and accommodate self-scheduling requests. - Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend or half of the weekends
- Holiday Requirements: Yes, if there is a need; requests accommodated when possible
- Is There a Call or Standby Requirement: No
- Floating Requirements:
Will float to other ICUs in the Valley – Meridian Medical Center and Nampa Medical Center. May also float outside ICU as a 1:1 sitter. - Scrub Color/Dress Code: No requirement
- Unit/Department Specific Orientation: 1–2 shifts
