Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Occupational Therapy Director to provide clinical leadership and operational oversight for the Occupational Therapy Department in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. The Director is responsible for supervising Occupational Therapy staff, coordinating clinical education and competency programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory and professional standards, and supporting departmental program development.

This position combines both leadership and direct patient care responsibilities, with approximately 80% of time dedicated to patient treatment and 20% focused on administrative and program management duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical oversight and supervision of Occupational Therapy staff
  • Directly supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) and Rehabilitation Technicians
  • Evaluate and treat patients in accordance with physician orders and care plans
  • Coordinate staff education, training, and competency assessments
  • Ensure compliance with state practice acts, accreditation standards, and facility policies
  • Oversee Occupational Therapy policies and procedures related to:
    • Scope of care
    • Evaluation and treatment standards
    • Documentation requirements
    • Discharge planning
  • Participate in program development and quality improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes

Schedule

  • 40 hours per week
  • 8-hour shifts
  • May be required to work every other Saturday

Required Qualifications

  • Active Occupational Therapy license in applicable state
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience in inpatient rehabilitation or acute care settings preferred
  • Strong clinical evaluation and treatment skills
  • Knowledge of rehabilitation regulations, documentation standards, and compliance requirements

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Perform patient evaluations and develop individualized treatment plans
  • Implement therapeutic interventions to improve functional independence
  • Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as appropriate
  • Educate patients and families regarding therapy goals and discharge planning

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Support departmental operations and staff development
  • Assist with scheduling, competency reviews, and performance oversight
  • Maintain department compliance with organizational and regulatory standards
  • Participate in process improvement and program enhancement initiatives

Work Environment

  • Inpatient rehabilitation setting
  • Collaborative multidisciplinary team environment
  • Fast-paced clinical setting requiring strong organizational and communication skills

Additional Information

  • Holiday coverage not required
  • Credentialing documents should be submitted together whenever possible
  • Housing availability in the surrounding area may be limited for travelers
