Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Department (ED)
12-Hour Night Shift (7p-7a) | 36 Hours/Week | 

Location-Charlotte NC

About the Facility

  • 874 licensed beds, Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Hospital
  • Designated Chest Pain and Stroke Center; Magnet® recognized
  • Radius rule: Traveler's permanent address must be 50+ miles from home unit

Unit Details

  • 43 ED beds + 20 boarding beds
  • Minimum experience: 2 years ED (Resource Team); first-time travelers considered but not preferred
  • Patient ratios: RN 1:5 (acuity-based max); CNA 1:7

Patient Population

  • Level 1 trauma (GSW, stabbings, MVAs, falls); stroke; heart failure; chest pain; fluid resuscitation/blood products; COPD; cardiac cath prep; ETOH/CIWA; IVDA; mental health; respiratory illnesses; GI disorders/infections; liver failure; AKI/CKD

Required Qualifications

  • Licenses/Certs: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, CPI (required); TNCC (preferred)
  • Key Skills: Trauma/stroke experience; cardiac rhythm interpretation; conscious sedation; PIV starts; chest tube/NGT/drain/tube management; critical care drips; blood/IVF administration; med gtt management (cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, IVF)

Department Support

  • CNA (variable ratios); Receptionist/HUC
  • 24/7 Charge RN (may take patients); Resource Nurse (as available)
  • Phlebotomy (peripheral draws); IV/VAT Team; 24/7 RT, Hospitalist, Intensivist
  • No dedicated telemetry tech—nurses interpret monitors and respond

Technology & Equipment

  • EMR: Epic
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med Dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitors: Philips

Floating Requirements

  • Required per Region 1 needs (within scope): Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Freestanding EDs, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, LCH)
  • Mid-shift floats: Paid travel time (stay on clock)—decline if not agreeable

Scheduling & Time Off

  • Weekend: Every other (EOW)
  • No call requirements
  • Holidays: Travelers work 75%
  • RTO: Up to 6 days (excl. holidays); add time to contract end if hours short

Orientation & Logistics

  • NEO + 2 days departmental
  • Scrubs: Navy
  • Parking: Free
